Prediction and odds for the game: Bayern Munich (20/23) vs PSG (11/4)

We are backing the home win

When: Wednesday, 7th April 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Allianz Arena

On Wednesday night, European champions Bayern Munich host PSG in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, in what could be the most fascinating tie of the last eight of the competition. The game is a repeat of last season’s final, where Bayern recorded a 1-0 win.

Bayern Munich

Hansi Flick’s European champions are on course for a repeat of last season’s achievement of winning both the Bundesliga and the Champions League title. The Bavarians have certainly not been as strong as last season, but have still been good enough to hold a seven-point lead in the Bundesliga, while still also making it to the last-eight of European football’s elite competition.

The reigning German champions made it seven straight wins in all competitions by recording a 1-0 win over second-place RB Leipzig last time out. The game saw the end of a prolific goalscoring run, as Flick’s team had scored at least two goals in their previous six matches.

Bayern have been simply formidable in the Champions League in recent seasons, as not only are they unbeaten in 18 games in the competition, but they have also recorded 17 victories in the process. Flick’s team have been particularly strong on home soil in European football’s elite competition, winning their last eight matches at the Allianz Arena, while scoring at least two goals in each win.

One negative for the Bavarians is that star striker Robert Lewandowski will miss out through injury. Former PSG forward Eric Choupo-Moting could once again fill in for the prolific Poland international.

PSG

The team from the French capital like the home team are hoping for a domestic and European double this season. However, the Parisians are not having it all their own way in Ligue One. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are currently second place in the table after a 1-0 defeat by league leaders Lille, with LOSC now three points clear of the reigning French champions. The quarter-final draw of this competition was not kind to PSG either.

However, the visitors do have a good recent record in the Champions League, as they are unbeaten in five games in European football’s elite competition. Pochettino’s team recorded a 5-2 aggregate win over Catalan giants Barcelona in the last-16, with star striker Kylian Mbappe scoring four times over the two legs.

Conclusion

Bayern Munich have a habit of pulling off big results, even when they are not playing particularly well. Even without the injured Lewandowski, we are backing the Bavarians to record a narrow victory. The other bet we are backing is for both teams to score, as both teams are potent in attack and can be vulnerable in defence.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 20/23 and/or both teams to score at odds of 1/2 (All odds are taken from Bet365)
