Prediction & odds for the game: Chelsea (6/5) v Real Madrid (12/5) – ST is backing the away win
When: Wednesday, 5th May @ 8pm K.O
Where: Stamford Bridge
Chelsea and Real Madrid will meet in the second leg of their enticing UEFA Champions League semi-final tie this week.
Chelsea still have quite a lot left to fight for this season between the top four battle, the Champions League and the FA Cup. They have a whole lot of rotation ahead of them and Thomas Tuchel knows that, but if they can somehow orchestrate another unlikely European Cup success, it would mark an incredible start to life at Stamford Bridge for Tuchel. Alas, they may have the away goal, but they can’t afford to underestimate the Spaniards.
The Blues were efficient in the first leg against Real and in the midst of the wait for the second leg, they came up against local rivals Fulham. There was a worry that they may have an aura of complacency to them but they stuck to their task which, given the circumstances, is all they really can do.
Success is something that Real Madrid are pretty familiar with as a club and even in a season as unpredictable as this one, they’re still in a really strong position to take home some silverware in the next few weeks. Sure, they’re the underdogs heading into the second leg of this tie, but they know a 1-0 win would be enough to get them through to the final. With that in the back of their mind, it’s hard not to feel like they don’t have a whole lot to lose.
Real have an unbelievable title race to focus on alongside the Champions League and when hosting Osasuna, they did the same as Chelsea – they had their eyes on the prize and sealed a 2-0 win.
The first leg was close and tense and, based on where both teams are at, we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see something similar play out in the second. We’re backing Chelsea to take control of the game as they did last week but as the evening goes on, we’ve got a feeling that they’ll begin to cave under the pressure. Real aren’t the finished product at all but we still think they’ll come from behind and win the tie on aggregate, progressing to the final in the process.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-1 Real Madrid on the night, leaving them as the 3-2 winners on aggregate, meaning we hit the over 2.5 goals marker – so buckle up for a dramatic and intriguing night of action in the capital.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 12/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5 (All odds are taken from bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
