Liverpool’s top four push continues as they prepare to take on an already-relegated West Bromwich Albion side with nothing to lose.
West Bromwich Albion have already been relegated from the Premier League with a handful of games to spare, ending a pretty disappointing stay back in the top flight. Many believe they’re in with a great chance of bouncing back at the first attempt next season if they can keep Sam Allardyce but even if they don’t, there are definitely a few positives hidden within their campaign that could give them confidence heading into the summer transfer window.
Two unbelievable wins against Chelsea (5-2) and Southampton (3-0) followed by big draws against rivals Aston Villa and Wolves should’ve, in any other situation, given Baggies fans cause for hope. Unfortunately, heavy defeats to Leicester and Arsenal make sure of their relegation back down to the Championship at the first attempt.
Liverpool have one thing and one thing only to focus on between now and the end of the season – finishing in the top four. Doing anything other than qualifying for the Champions League could prove to be disastrous but after the last week or so, Reds fans can be forgiven for feeling a little bit more optimistic. Jurgen Klopp knows there’s still a lot of work to do, but there’s also no reason whatsoever for him to be afraid of any of the teams that await them.
While they did manage to beat Aston Villa back on April 10, a run of three draws against Real Madrid (which saw them get knocked out of the Champions League), Leeds and Newcastle really set them back. Alas, football is a game of swings and roundabouts, with Klopp’s men getting back on track in a big way with victories over Southampton and Manchester United.
We do think West Brom will do a pretty good job of frustrating Liverpool in the early portion of this match because let’s face it, Big Sam is pretty good at that. However, the Reds are really starting to fire on all cylinders as we head into the latter stages of the campaign, and we still think they’ve got what it takes to overcome the Baggies and secure the win. Eventually, it should be pretty convincing, helping out their goal difference – which could prove to be vital.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 4-1 Liverpool, ensuring we smash the over 2.5 goals bracket – so get ready for some entertaining football this weekend.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 2/11 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
