Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (19/10) vs West Ham (11/8)

We are backing the away win

When: Sunday 31 October 2021, Kick-off 16:30

Where: Villa Park

On Sunday afternoon, Aston Villa host West Ham at Villa Park, as the visitors look to continue their recent good run of form.

Aston Villa

The Villans form has dipped of late, as the team from the Midlands head into this on the back of one win in their last five games in all competitions. A 3-1 defeat at Arsenal last time out means that Dean Smith’s team have now suffered three straight Premier League defeat. The game also saw Villa concede at least two goals for the third straight league match.

They have at least been hard to beat on home soil of late, as a 3-2 defeat against Wolves in their last home match ended a run of five games unbeaten on home soil for the Midlander’s. Villa have also been prolific of late at Villa Park in the league, scoring at least two goals in four of their previous five Premier League games.

West Ham

The Hammers seem to have recovered the form of last season after a slightly indifferent start to the new Premier League campaign. David Moyes team are now unbeaten in four matches in all competitions, having won six of their last eight matches in 90 minutes and one in extra time.

The Irons have built their recent good run of form on solid defensive displays, as the visitors have now kept four straight clean sheets in all competitions, while also shutting out four of their last six opponents. Their recent defensive displays have led to three of their last four competitive matches producing under 2.5 goals.

The Hammers are unbeaten in seven away matches in the Premier League, having recorded five wins in the process. Their recent league games on their travels have been entertaining and high-scoring with over 2.5 goals in six of their previous nine away games in the top-flight.

The history of this fixture is on the visitor’s side, as the Irons are unbeaten in seven meetings with Villa in all competitions. The Irons won both their meetings with the team from the Midlands last season.

Conclusion

Villa are badly in need of a victory, but face a West Ham team high on confidence and with good momentum. We are backing David Moyes’ to continue their recent good run of away form and record a narrow victory. The other recommendation we make is to back over 2.5 goals, as Villa’s defence has looked vulnerable of late, while West Ham are also potent in attack, especially with a well-rested Michail Antonio.

Our Tips: We are backing the away win at odds of 11/8 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
