Update: Unfortunately due several Manchester United players testing positive for Covid-19 this game has been postponed until a later date.

Prediction and odds for the game: Brentford (3/1) vs Manchester United (4/5)

We are backing the away

When: Tuesday 14th December 2021, Kick-off 19:30

Where: The Brentford Community Stadium

On Tuesday night, Brentford host Manchester United at the Brentford Community Stadium, as the visitors look to continue their winning start in the Premier League under new head coach Ralf Rangnick.

Brentford

The Bees have been hard to beat of late in the Premier League and seem to be over a poor run of form. In fact, Thomas Frank’s team have now lost just once in their last five matches in the Premier League. Last time out, the home side recorded a 2-1 home win over Watford. The win moved Brentford into the top half of the Premier League table. Any doubts about their ability to cut it in the English top-flight now seem to be expelled.

The Bees have won just three of their eight home matches in the English top-flight this season. However, two of those three wins have been in their last two home games in that aforementioned win over Watford and before that a defeat of Everton. They have kept just two clean sheets on home soil in the Premier League this season, a record that is slightly concerning.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have picked up some decent results since the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as head coach, even if their performances have not been great. United have recorded back-to-back Premier League wins over Crystal Palace and Norwich City, whilst also recording two straight clean sheets. Sandwiched in-between was a 1-1 home draw with Young Boys in the Champions League, which was pretty meaningless to the visitors.

The recent mini-revival has moved Rangnick’s team up to fourth-place in the table, just a point adrift of West Ham, who occupy the last Champions League spot in the Premier League.

United’s games have certainly been far more low-scoring since the exit of Rangnick’s predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as five of United’s games since the Norwegian’s exit have produced under 2.5 goals.

The Red Devils have been the epitome of inconsistent on their travels of late in the Premier League, as the visitors have won two, lost two and drawn one of their previous five away games in the English top-flight. United may not have been great on their travels, but they have only failed to score in one of their previous 13 league matches on their travels.

Conclusion

This game is hard to call as Brentford have been pretty solid of late in the Premier League. However, Manchester United seem to be developing that knack of just having enough to win games without playing that well. With that in mind, we are backing an away win. The other bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals, as it could be a tight encounter due to United’s newly found defensive resilience.

Our Tips: We are backing the away win at odds of 4/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
