Prediction and odds: Brighton (8/5) vs Liverpool (31/20)

We’re backing Liverpool/Brighton (HT/FT) at 22/1

When: Sunday, 29th January 2023 – 1.30pm KO (GMT)

Where: Amex Stadium

Brighton & Hove Albion will hope lightning strikes twice when they play host to Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion supporters have been treated to some pretty special moments so far this season, and something tells us they’re only just getting started. In addition to chasing down a place in Europe, they’ve got a squad and fanbase that believes they can win some silverware in the months ahead. Their only way to do that, of course, is by winning the FA Cup, and we certainly wouldn’t put it past them.

The Seagulls started off the year with a 4-1 demolition of Everton, before tearing through Middlesbrough with a 5-1 victory in the third round of the cup. Then, they gave Liverpool a preview of what could be to come with a 3-0 win at the Amex. They may have somewhat slipped up with a 2-2 draw against Leicester, but if that’s considered a bad result these days, we’d say they’re doing okay.

Liverpool

Liverpool haven’t exactly had a season to remember thus far. Jurgen Klopp knows that on their day, they can definitely beat just about anyone – but they haven’t been doing so. The mentality monsters moniker hasn’t been accurate for quite some time and they need to find a way to fix that. Given that the FA Cup is their main hope of winning a trophy, we’d say they’ll put a big focus on making it into the fifth round.

After being humbled by Brentford in the capital on January 2nd, the Reds proceeded to play out a fun 2-2 draw with Wolves in the third round of the cup. They went on to lose 3-0 to Brighton in the league which, we’d imagine, will be fresh in their minds psychologically. They did beat Wolves in the replay to reach this stage, only to fall short in a 0-0 draw with Chelsea that left a lot to be desired.

Conclusion

This game is going to be wide open and with Liverpool making a handful of changes, we expect them to come out firing. We even think they’ll take the lead through a smart set piece, taking that advantage into the half time interval.

Alas, once Brighton start to really get into the swing of things, the momentum will shift. They’ll begin to take over as the side with the most momentum and confidence right now, equalising early in the second half before immediately going on to take the lead. The visitors will attempt to make it a grandstand finish but ultimately, it’ll be the boys from the south coast who make it that one step closer to Wembley.

Our tips (all taken from bet365): Liverpool/Brighton (HT/FT) at 22/1 + over 2.5 goals at 8/13
