The late kick-off in La Liga on Saturday evening provides an interesting clash between Sevilla and Atletico Madrid at the Sanchez Pizjuan. Both teams are looking to keep pace with league leaders Barcelona.

Sevilla (Odds of 27/20 for victory)

The Andalusians are currently fifth-place in the table, only behind their fourth-place rivals courtesy of an inferior goal difference. Julen Lopetegui’s side has hit a patch of form of late, as they are now four games undefeated in all competitions. A 1-1 draw at Valencia last time out ended a three-game winning run for the home side.

An improvement in defensive solidity has certainly help results of late, as they have now conceded just one goal in their last four competitive matches. The better defensive displays have contributed to the fact that the Andalusians’ last three La Liga games have produced under 2.5 goals.

Sevilla are traditionally strong at the Sanchez Pizjuan and have won their last three league outings on home soil. In fact, they have won seven of their last ten matches on home soil in La Liga. Their recent home games in the Spanish top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings.

Atletico Madrid (Odds of 11/5 for victory)

Atletico are currently just two points behind league leaders Barcelona following a seven-game unbeaten run in La Liga. However, Los Rojiblancos have drawn far too many league games of late, having drawn five of their last seven matches in the Spanish top-flight.

Last time out, Diego Simeone’s team drew 1-1 at Alaves. The result means that Atletico’s last eight matches in La Liga have produced under 2.5 goals. The fact that the visitors have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven league matches is a major factor in those recent low-scoring encounters.

Atletico have a mixed recent away record in La Liga. However, they have recorded just two wins in their last seven matches on their travels, which is not great for a team of Atletico’s high standards.

Unsurprisingly for a team famous for their defensive solidity, the visitor’s recent away games in the Spanish top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last five outings. Atleti keeping three clean sheets in five away matches has played a big part in that statistic.

Sevilla have proven hard opponents for Atletico in recent seasons, as Simeone’s team has won just one of the last five matches against the Andalusians in all competitions.

Conclusion

There is very little between these two sides in terms of quality and league position. Both teams will be looking for top-four finishes at the end of the season. Although teams seem well placed to mount a title challenge.

We are getting splinters again by backing the draw at odds of 11/5, as these two teams are just too hard to separate. The other bet we are recommending is the under 1.5 goals scored at odds of 13/8. This is because Atletico are usually good for a low-scoring game, while Sevilla have not exactly been prolific of late.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 11/5 and/or the under 1.5 goals scored at odds of 13/8. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
