Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (21/20) v Newcastle (27/10)

When: Monday 25th November 2019, Kick-off 8 PM

Where: Villa Park

The last game of the Premier League weekend sees Aston Villa host Newcastle at Villa Park on Monday night, as the home side look to record a victory to move them away from the bottom three.

Aston Villa

Dean Smith’s team have enjoyed a rollercoaster of a season so far. The Villans are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak. The poor run of form means that Villa are 17th place in the top-flight, just three points clear of the relegation zone.

A 2-1 defeat in a Midlands derby against Wolves last time out also means that the home side has conceded at least two goals in their last three outings. The fact that the Villans have kept two clean sheets in their last 12 Premier League games this season has not helped their position in the table.

Villa have an inconsistent home record in the Premier League since winning promotion last season, winning just two of their six matches at Villa Park this season. The home side have only failed to score once this season in the top-flight on home soil, so are an attacking threat.

The Villans have struggled against Newcastle of late, failing to beat the Magpies in the last 14 meetings.

Newcastle

Expectations were low on Tyneside when Steve Bruce replace Rafa Benitez as the Magpies head coach in the summer. However, in truth, the Magpies are not enduring a terrible campaign under their experienced coach. They head into this clash on the back of a three-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, having beaten West Ham and Bournemouth in their last two outings.

The decent recent run of form has moved Steve Bruce’s team up to 13th in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone. Another win here could be enough to move the visitors into the top half of the table.

The Magpies have been poor travellers of late. However, the aforementioned 3-2 win at West Ham in their last away game in the top-flight ended a run of three straight defeats away from home in the Premier League.

The team from the north east have looked vulnerable on their travels this season, conceding at least two goals in four of their last away matches, including three of their last four matches.

The absence of star centre-back Jamaal Lascelles through injury is not going to help the visitor’s chances of improving that poor defensive away record.

Conclusion

The recent meetings between the two teams have been tight affairs, with the last six meetings all producing under 2.5 goals. This game could follow suit, as neither side are hardly prolific. That is why we are backing the under 2.5 goals scored. The other bet we are backing the draw, as there is not much between these two teams when it comes to quality.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 12/5 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11.
