Prediction & odds for the game: Watford (10/3) v Manchester United (3/4)

When: Sunday, 22nd December 2019 @ 2pm K.O

Where: Vicarage Road

Two sides who are having very different seasons will meet in the Premier League at Vicarage Road on Sunday when Watford face Manchester United.

Watford

The Hornets’ managerial merry-go-round has begun once again, and that doesn’t exactly scream ‘good news’ for fans who have been here and experienced it all before. Stability is the one thing a club in danger down at the bottom of the table needs, and they just don’t have any of that right now. All momentum built up from last season’s FA Cup run is lost, and now, they need to seriously consider making some hefty investments during the January transfer window.

Watford’s win over Norwich City back in November seemed to give fans hope that they could get themselves out of this mess, but it hasn’t been pretty viewing for them ever since. They were thoroughly beaten by Burnley, edged out by Southampton, put to the sword by Leicester and fought valiantly against Liverpool – only to lose 2-0. They did secure a point against Crystal Palace, though, which is something.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is slowly but surely making a mark at Old Trafford – even if it has taken a year for him to do so. The Norwegian has big plans for the club as we look ahead to the January transfer window, but in the here and now, he appears to be more focused on taking things one game at a time, which is exactly what he needs to do. This is a big opportunity for them to make a statement at the expense of Watford, but we’ve seen them slip up in cases like this many times before.

The only games in which Manchester United have dropped points in their last six have come against Aston Villa and Everton, both of which they drew. Aside from that they’ve been able to beat Colchester and secure their spot in the last four of the Carabao Cup, cruise to a 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar, and shock the masses with back to back victories over Tottenham & Manchester City.

Conclusion

Watford are capable of springing a surprise or two from time to time but we don’t expect to see anything like that here – in fact, quite the opposite. We’re anticipating an awful lot of queries and questions as to why the Hornets can’t challenge this United side despite them struggling against a variety of teams in the Premier League this season. We believe the Red Devils will win the game, and we can’t imagine they’re going to face too many issues in doing so.

One thing we are anticipating is a lot of possession play, which is why we’re going to back the under 2.5 goals threshold for this clash.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 3/4 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/1. (All odds are taken from bet365).
