Prediction and odds for the game: Wolves (5/2) v Sevilla (23/20)

We are backing the Sevilla win

When: Tuesday, 11th August 2020, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena

On Tuesday night, Wolves and Sevilla go head-to-head in Duisburg in the Europa League quarter-final, with both teams looking to end their seasons on a high.

Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have enjoyed a decent campaign. Despite at times showing signs of a top-four challenge last season in the Premier League, they eventually dropped off and finished seventh-place in the top-flight table. Their final league placing was not enough for European football next season. Their only hope of playing continental football next season is if they win this competition. That will certainly not be easy, with some quality teams remaining the competition, including Tuesday night’s opponents.

Wolves have a solid recent record in Europa League though, as the team from the Midlands have suffered defeat twice in their previous 16 European games. They overcame Greek side Olympiakos 2-1 on aggregate in the last-16. The second leg 1-0 win over Olympiakos ended a two-game mini-run without a victory in Europe.

Wolves have been defensively solid on home soil in the Europa League, keeping clean sheets in their previous four home European matches. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet away from Molineux in the competition.

Sevilla

The Andalusians have become synonymous with success in the Europa League, as they have won the competition on three occasions in the last six seasons. The Spanish side are enjoying a steady debut campaign in the dugout for former Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui. Los Nervionenses finished fourth in La Liga, claiming a Champions League spot. Winning the Europa League would just be some tasty icing on the top of the cake for the Spanish outfit.

Sevilla heads into this game on the back of an 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Last time out saw them produce arguably one of their best displays of the season, as the Andalusians recorded a 2-0 win over in-form Serie A team Roma. The victory over the Giallorossi ended a short three-game winless run in the Europa League and means that Sevilla have suffered just one defeat in their previous 14 games in European football’s secondary competition over 90 minutes.

Their recent matches in this competition have been fairly tight affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in their previous five outings.

Conclusion

Both these teams have been hard to defeat in the Europa League. This could a cagey and tight battle. We don’t think there is going to be much in it. The first bet we are backing is Sevilla to record a narrow victory. Lopetegui’s team seem to have a greater momentum heading the clash. The other bet we are recommending is under 2.5 goals due to both teams being relatively strong in defence.

Verdict: We are predicting a Sevilla win at odds of 23/20 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/15 (All odds are taken from Bet365).
