Prediction and odds for the game: Lille (13/10) vs Milan (2/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5

When: Thursday, 26th November 2020, kick-off 17:55

Where: The Stade Pierre-Mauroy

On Thursday evening, one of the most intriguing matches of gameweek four of the Europa League takes place, as Lille host Milan at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Lille

The home team are enjoying another solid campaign. Christophe Gaultier’s team are second in Ligue One, just two points behind perennial French champions PSG. Their good form includes their European campaign, where they have picked up seven points from three games in Group H.

The French team’s most eye-catching result of the season was arguably their 3-0 win at the San Siro in the reverse fixture, as Turkish attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazici grabbed a hat-trick in the clash.

The win took Lille to the top of the group, a point ahead of Thursday night’s visitors. A home win would move LOSC closer to booking their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

One negative for Gaultier’s team of late has been that they have been slightly inconsistent, as they have won just two of their last six games in all competitions. They have remained prolific of late though, scoring at least two goals in their three competitive outings.

Milan

The visitors have been making big headlines in Serie A, as the ageless Zlatan Ibrahimovic has led the Rossoneri to the top of the Italian top-flight table. The 39-year-old scored his ten league in just six games in a big 3-1 win at Napoli last time out. It was not all good news for Stefano Pioli’s team, as the veteran Swedish forward picked up an injury that could sideline him for up to a month.

The shock 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture is Milan only loss of the season in any competition. The game also saw the Rossoneri fail to score for the first time this season. The visitors will know that Lille are unlikely to easy opponents.

Before the defeat at the San Siro, Milan had a decent record in the Europa League, as they were unbeaten in five games, having won four in normal time and one on penalty kicks. The visitors have a relatively inconsistent recent away record on their travels in the competition. However, they have scored at least two goals in their last three matches on their travels in European football secondary competition.

Conclusion

Lille are a highly exciting team with several quality players. Meanwhile, Stefano Pioli looks to also be developing a fine side of his own. The visiting coach will have learnt from the reverse fixture and we predict this game will end all square. In the absence of Ibrahimovic, we are backing former Lille forward Rafael Leao to come back to haunt his old team and be an anytime goalscorer.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5 and Rafael Leao to be an anytime goalscorer at the same odds (All odds are taken from Bet365).
