Prediction and odds for the game: Austria (2/1) vs Denmark (7/5)

We are backing the draw at odds of 11/5

When: Wednesday, 31st March 2021, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The Ernst Happel Stadion

On Wednesday night, Austria and Denmark go head-to-head in Vienna, in what could be a massive clash in Group F of qualifying for Qatar 2022.

Austria

The home side will feel confident that they can seal one of the top-two spots in Group F. However, Wednesday night’s opponents may be their biggest hurdle to competing at World 2022. Franco Foda’s team has taken four points from their two group games against Scotland and last time out the Faroes Islands.

The win in their last outing means that the home team are unbeaten in eight international matches, having recorded six victories. They have also been potent in front of goal, having scored at least two goals in four of their last five outings.

One player who has been in hot form of late is young Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic, who has scored three times in his last two international outings. The goals come on the back of a stellar maiden season in the German Bundesliga.

Austria have a decent recent home record, as they are unbeaten in their last four international matches, having recorded three victories in the process. In fact, they have won seven of their last nine games on home soil.

Denmark

The visitors have kicked off their qualifying campaign with back-to-back victories over Israel and Moldova, the latter resulted in an 8-0 victory for Kasper Hjulmand’s team, in which Kasper Dolberg and Mikkel Daumsgaard both bagged braces. The high-scoring nature of the win may well prove pivotal later on in the group, with things expected to be close between these two teams for the automatic and play-off spots in the group.

The good start to their qualifying campaign was just a continuation of their recent good form all around, as the Scandinavian team have now won seven of their last eight international matches. They have also been prolific of late in front of goal, scoring at least two goals in their five games.

The visitors have been tough to beat on their travels of late, as they have lost just one of their last 11 away internationals while winning three of their previous four games. As in their recent international games in general, Denmark have been relatively prolific on their travels, scoring at least two goals scored in three of their last four outings.

Conclusion

These two teams look like the two most likely teams to qualify for Qatar 2022 from Group F. However, this game could have a big bearing on who claims the automatic qualification spot for the tournament. Unfortunately for both teams, we are backing the draw, as there is very little between the two teams. The bet we recommend is for Sasa Kalajdzic to be an anytime goalscorer, as the 23-year-old has been good form in front of goal late.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 11/5 and/or Sasa Kalajdzic to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
