Prediction and odds for the game: Southampton (5/2) vs Leicester (Evens)

We are backing the away win at evens

When: Friday, 30th April 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: St Marys Stadium

On Friday night, Southampton host Leicester at St Marys in the Premier League, as the Foxes look to move a step closer to sealing a spot in next seasons Champions League.

Southampton

The Saints have slipped down the Premier League table in recent months. They now find themselves 15th place, nine points clear of the relegation zone. It seems unlikely that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team will be dragged into the bottom three, but the south coast outfit will be keen to ensure they are not in the danger zone when the season reaches its conclusion in May.

Southampton’s form has been worrying of late though, as the Saints have won just two of their last 15 matches in the English top-flight. To make matters worse, they have also lost four of their last five games in the Premier League.

The main issue of late has been a leaky defence, as the Saints have now conceded at least two goals in their previous five league matches.

Their recent home form has been poor too, Hasenhuttl’s team has lost four of their last six league games at St Marys. However, they did end a five-game winless run on home soil last time out by recording a 3-2 win over Burnley.

Leicester

The Foxes will be looking to avoid a repeat of last season’s collapse in the current campaign. Brendan Rodgers’ team are currently in a good position, third-place in the table and seven points clear of fifth-place West Ham.

After the blip of two straight league defeats by Manchester City and West Ham, Leicester have recorded back-to-back victories over West Brom and Crystal Palace.

Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho has played a vital role for the Foxes in recent months. The 24-year-old has scored in his last two league appearances for Leicester and has a career-best ten league goals for the season.

Leicester have a decent recent record on their travels, as they have suffered just one away defeat in 11 matches in the Premier League. A 3-2 defeat at West Ham in their last away game ended a ten-game unbeaten run on their travels in the English top-flight.

The Foxes won 9-0 on their last Premier League visit to St Marys. In fact, they have won on their last three Premier League visits to the Saints.

Conclusion

Southampton’s form has been simply woeful of late in the Premier League. Leicester have not been ultra-consistent in recent months. However, the back-to-back league wins, plus the recent 1-0 win over the Saints in the FA Cup semi-final will fill the visitors with confidence. Therefore, we are backing the away win.

We are also backing over 2.5 goals scored, as Southampton have been poor defensively of late, while the Foxes have a red hot forward in the shape of Iheanacho.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at evens and over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
