Prediction and odds for the game: England (1/4) vs Romania (10/1)

We are backing England half-time/full-time at odds 4/5

When: Sunday, 6th June 2021, Kick-off 17:00

Where: The Riverside Stadium

On Sunday evening, England play their last friendly game before the summers European Championships, as Gareth Southgate’s team host Romania at the Riverside Stadium.

England

The Three Lions head into this clash on the back of a five-game winning run in all international games. England have been good at both ends of the pitch in those recent matches, as they have conceded just once in the five-game winning run. At the other end of the pitch, they have also scored at least two goals in four of their last five games in the international game.

England have a good recent home record, having won 14 of their last 15 matches on home soil, most of which have come at Wembley. However, their last outing was a 1-0 win over Austria at the Riverside Stadium, where of course this game takes place.

England have suffered a big injury blow with Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold picking up a thigh injury against Austria that will keep him out of Euro 2020. Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Kalvin Phillips are doubts for this clash, while Harry Maguire will once again miss out through injury.

Romania

While the hosts prepare for the European Championships, the visitors next focus is the World Cup qualifiers which return in September. Mirel Radoi’s team have been in poor form of late in the international game, winning just once in their last five outings. A 2-1 home defeat last time out means that the visitors have now suffered three straight international defeats.

The visitor’s defensive problems have been at the heart of Romania’s recent poor results on the international scene, as they have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four outings.

The poor defensive displays have led to Romania’s recent games being relatively high-scoring, with three of their last four games producing over 2.5 goals.

Romania have struggled for results on their travels, as they have won just one of their last six games away from home. To make matters worse, the visitors have lost four of their last six international matches on the road. Once again poor defensive displays have been the key to their poor away record, as they have now conceded at least two goals in five of their last six outings.

Conclusion

It seems hard to see anything other than an England victory here, but the home win offers very little value. Instead, we are backing England to be winning at half-time and full-time. The other recommendation we are making is over 2.5 goals scored, as the home team are potent in attack and Romania are poor at the back.

Verdict: We are backing England half-time/full-time at odds of 4/5 and over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 3/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
