Prediction & odds for the game: Denmark (4/9) v Finland (8/1) – ST is backing the home win
When: Saturday, 12th June @ 5pm K.O
Where: Telia Parken
Denmark and Finland will meet this weekend as both nations begin their UEFA Euro 2020 campaign in Group B.
For years now we’ve been waiting to see whether or not Denmark would take that next step in their role as “dark horse” and while they may not have quite replicated their 1992 heroics, they’ve definitely positioned themselves as one to watch. They have a strong spine through their squad that should ensure they keep things tight at the back, but the major worry will be whether or not they can make any kind of significant noise moving forward.
The strength of the Danes is regularly showcased whenever they go out there and play, mainly because they have such a good poker face when coming up against adversity. Their warm-up games were pretty informative in that regard, starting off with a 1-1 draw against Germany. Then, to finish off, they beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-0 to make it four wins and one draw in their last five.
Finland believed in themselves and their ability to get to this point and right now, we’ve got big “Iceland 2016” vibes radiating off of their team. They’re sharp, they’re fast and they aren’t going to be afraid of anyone in this tournament. We aren’t suggesting they’ll kick on and win the whole thing because we just don’t think they’re strong enough for that, but don’t sleep on their ability to put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Unfortunately for the Finns, momentum has been in pretty short supply for them as of late. They were hoping to generate some electricity in their warm-up games but after a 2-0 loss to Sweden, they were beaten 1-0 by Estonia in a fairly embarrassing result given the circumstances.
We think this is going to be a pretty lively affair with Finland wanting to make a real statement on the big stage. Whether or not they’re able to do so depends, in our opinion, on whether Denmark show up and perform. We expect Finland to be the fast starters and we do actually think they’ll take the lead, but the Danes should have what it takes to break them down. We’re backing them to overcome an early obstacle and eventually push past their Group B rivals.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-1 Denmark, ensuring we hit the over 2.5 goals marker. Some may say we’re being too optimistic to Finland with that prediction, but you just never know what to expect from opening games at a tournament as unpredictable as the Euros.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 4/9 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/8 (All odds are taken from bet365).
