Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (12/5) vs Arsenal (11/10)

We are backing the away win

When: Monday 6 December 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Goodison Park

On Monday night, Everton host Arsenal at Goodison Park in the Premier League, with pressure growing on home head coach Rafa Benitez.

Everton

Last time out Everton suffered a 4-1 home hammering in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool. The defeat means that the Toffees have lost six of their last seven games in the Premier League. They have also won just once in their previous ten outings in the English top-flight. The poor run of form has seen the men from Merseyside slip to 15th place in the table, just five points clear of the relegation zone.

Reports suggest that the Toffees hierarchy is split in their opinion of Rafa Benitez’s future. However, another defeat would surely move the Spaniard closer to the exit door.

The loss against their local rivals was their third home defeat in their last four matches. They have also conceded nine goals in their last three league matches at Goodison Park. It is a woeful run of form for a team who had ambitions of challenging for European football at the beginning of the campaign.

The Toffees won both of their meetings with Arsenal last season. In fact, the Toffees have won three of their last five meetings with Arsenal, while suffering just one defeat. Before the recent good run, the Gunners had won four straight matches against the Merseysider’s.

Arsenal

After a good run of form, Arsenal have now lost two of their last three Premier League games. Those defeats were against Liverpool and a seemingly revived Manchester United, though, so they were not the end of the world. This game is the sort that Mikel Arteta’s team must win if they are to maintain their bid for a top-four finish this season.

The Gunners are fifth-place in the table and now trail fourth-place West Ham by four points after the Hammers shocked Chelsea 3-2 at the London Stadium on Saturday.

One facet of their game that needs to improve if they are to finish in the league top-four is their away form. The Gunners have now won just two of their last seven Premier League games on their travels while suffering four defeats in the process.

While Arteta’s team has improved defensively this season, they have now conceded seven goals in just their last two away matches.

Conclusion

This could be a crunch game for the future of Everton head coach Rafa Benitez. The Toffees are without key figures Yerry Mina and Dominic Calvert-Lewin through injury. We are backing the home sides current poor run of form to continue, with the visitors recording a victory. Everton have been poor defensively at Goodison Park of late, as have Arsenal on their travels. Therefore, we are backing over 2.5 goals scored in this potentially pivotal clash.

Our Tips: We are backing the away win at odds of 11/10 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
