Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (2/7) vs Brentford (9/1)

We are backing both teams to score at evens

When: Sunday 16 January 2022, Kick-off 14:00

Where: Anfield

On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool host Brentford at Anfield in the Premier League, as both teams look to aid their respective goals for this season.

Liverpool

The men from Merseyside have experienced a slight slump by their high standards in form of late. A 0-0 draw against ten-man Arsenal on Thursday night means that Jurgen Klopp’s team has won just one of their last six matches in all competitions. However, it must also be noted that Liverpool also suffered just one defeat in their previous 14 matches in all competitions too.

When it comes to the Premier League alone, the home side has failed to win in their last three league matches. Last time out in the English top-flight, the Reds drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The game was the last before attacking duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane left for the African Cup of Nations.

Despite their relatively poor form, Liverpool are still 14 home matches unbeaten in the Premier League. A 3-1 win over Newcastle in their last home league game means they have recorded four straight wins.

Brentford

The Bees are currently in 13th place in the Premier League table. However, the visitor’s form has taken a slight turn for the worse. Thomas Frank’s team has lost three of their last four league matches after a 4-1 defeat against Southampton last time out.

One factor in Brentford’s recent poor form has been their leaky defence, as the Bees have kept just one clean sheet in their last 15 Premier League outings.

Brentford have also been poor travellers of late in the English top-flight, as they have failed to win any of their last six away games in the league, suffering four defeats in the process. The fact that the Bees have conceded at least two goals in all six of those winless matches on their travels has been a big factor in their poor away results.

Conclusion

The attacking duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will certainly be big absentees for the home team. However, we still believe they will have enough quality to see off the visitors. The home win offers very little value.

Instead, we will look at the goals market for our recommendations. The first bet we are backing is Diogo Jota to be an anytime goalscorer, as the Portuguese forward has been in impressive scoring form for the Reds this season. The other bet we are going to back is for both teams to score, as Brentford may be poor travellers, but they do possess an attacking threat.

Our Tips: We are backing both teams to score at evens and/or Diogo Jota to be anytime goalscorer at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
