When: Sunday 15 May 2022, Kick-off 14:00

Where: The London Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Manchester City will look to move a step closer to winning the Premier League title, as the Citizens visit West Ham.

West Ham

After flying high earlier in the season and flirting with the Champions League spots, West Ham head into their penultimate game of the campaign in seventh place in the table. David Moyes’ team can still finish in the top six, though, as the Hammers only trail sixth-place Manchester United by three points, although they do have a vastly superior goal difference to the Red Devils.

The Irons form has dipped of late, as a 4-0 win at already-relegated Norwich in their last Premier League match ended a run of four straight defeats in all competitions. That run included exiting the Europa League at the semi-final stage to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The win also ended a run of four games without a win in the Premier League for David Moyes’ team, while bringing a first clean sheet in their last eight league matches.

Manchester City

The reigning English champions have bounced back superbly from their exit at the semi-final of the Champions League against Real Madrid by recording a 5-0 win over Newcastle and winning 5-1 at Wolves last time out. The midweek results saw City move three points ahead of second-place Liverpool in the table while increasing their goal difference advantage over Jurgen Klopp’s team to seven too.

A victory in this clash could well be enough to confirm the Citizens as champions for the third season out of the four in the English top-flight.

City has been absolutely lethal in front of goal in recent weeks in the Premier League, scoring at least three goals in their last five matches. As we predicted in our preview of City’s game against Wolves, Kevin De Bruyne got on the scoresheet. However, I doubt many expected him to score four times in the opening hour of the game.

The Citizens are unbeaten in their last 17 away matches in the Premier League, having recorded wins in five of their last six league matches on their travels. Pep Guardiola’s team has also managed to keep clean sheets in five of their previous six away matches in the Premier League.

Conclusion

The fact that West Ham can still clinch a European spot may be a motivation for the home team. However, on current form City will be difficult to stop, especially for a team that has struggled for clean sheets in recent months. We are backing City half-time/full-time, as it offers slightly more value than a straightforward City victory. This could be a high-scoring encounter too, so we are also backing over 3.5 goals.

Our Tips: We are backing Manchester City half-time/full-time at odds of 11/10 and/or over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 13/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
