Prediction and odds for the game: Eintracht Frankfurt (5/6) v Hertha Berlin (3/1) We are backing the home win

When: Friday 06th December 2019, Kick-off 7:30 PM

Where: The Commerzbank Arena

Two teams whose form has been poor of late in the Bundesliga meet on Friday night, as Eintracht Frankfurt host struggling Hertha Berlin at the Commerzbank Arena.

Eintracht Frankfurt

The home side are in poor form heading into this favourable clash against Hertha Berlin. Despite home advantage and the fact that Hertha are in poor form, Frankfurt will still approach this game with a hint of trepidation. That feeling of trepidation comes from a record of just one win in their last five games in all competitions.

That recent five-game run includes suffering three straight league defeats against Freiburg, Wolfsburg and last time out Mainz. The poor run of form has seen Frankfurt drop to tenth-place and well off the pace in the race for a European berth for next season.

The aforementioned defeat against Wolfsburg ended a stellar run of home form for Adi Hutter’s side on home soil, as they were previously undefeated six home matches in the Bundesliga, having recorded four victories in the process. Just one defeat in seven home games is not an awful record on home soil.

Hertha Berlin

The team from the capital find themselves 16th in the Bundesliga table, occupying the relegation play-off spot. A poor run of form recently saw Croatian boss Ante Covic replaced by former national team hero and boss Jurgen Klinsmann.

However, the former Bayern Munich boss could not prevent his new team slipping to a fifth straight league defeat against Dortmund last weekend. The performance did show some signs of improvement, even if the result did not.

One aspect of the team that Klinsmann needs to improve and quickly is Hertha’s defensive displays. The team from the capital have conceded at least two goals in four of their last five Bundesliga matches, which has not helped the team’s results. Their poor defensive displays have contributed to some high-scoring games, though, as four of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

As you would expect for a team on a bad league run, Hertha’s away record is a poor one. The visitors have won just two of their last 13 Bundesliga matches on their travels.

Hertha have also suffered four defeats in their last six matches in German top-flight. Just one clean sheet in eight away games in the Bundesliga is one of the reasons for their poor form away from home.

Conclusion

Frankfurt are certainly not the same team as last year, but that is to be expected considering they lost their three best attacking players in the summer Luka Jovic, Sebastien Haller and Ante Rebic. However, they still have enough quality within their squad to beat struggling Hertha, so we are backing the home win.

We are also taking a bit more of a risky punt on backing the over 3.5 goals scored, as we think it offers good potential.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 5/6 and/or the over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
