Prediction and odds for the game: Italy (4/7) vs Switzerland (11/2)

We are backing the Italy win

When: Wednesday, 16th June 2021, Kick-off 19:00

Where: The Stadio Olimpico

On Wednesday night, Italy host Switzerland in Group A of Euro 2020, in a game that could see the Azzurri book their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Italy

Roberto Mancini’s team opened their campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over Turkey, with goals from Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne, as well as an own goal from Merih Demiral giving the Azzurri a big win.

The victory continued Italy’s recent good run of form of late, as they have now won nine straight games, while also keeping clean sheets in all nine victories. Mancini’s team have not just been superb in defence in recent games though, as the Azzurri have also scored at least two goals in all nine of those recent victories.

Italy have enjoyed mixed fortunes in the European Championships of late, although they have won four of their last six matches while losing just once in that run of games over 90 minutes.

Mancini will be without the services of injured pair Lorenzo Pellegrini and Alessandro Florenzi, as the latter picked up a calf problem last time out against Turkey. PSG midfielder Marco Verratti is still a fitness doubt and may once again miss out through injury.

Switzerland

Vladimir Petkovic’s team opened their Euro 2020 campaign with a slightly underwhelming performance in a 1-1 draw against Wales in Baku. The draw was not a fatal result for the visitor’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stages, although this game on paper should certainly be their toughest challenge.

The draw saw Switzerland stretch their unbeaten international run to eight games. However, it also ended a six-game winning run for Petkovic’s team. The Swiss have been relatively prolific in front of goal in recent outings, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven matches.

Switzerland have a poor recent record in the European Championships, having failed to win in four games in the tournament. However, all four of the games have finished all square after 90 minutes. Their most recent outings in the European Championships have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 scored in the last six games.

The visitors may well bring central midfielder Denis Zakaria back into the starting line-up after the Monchengladbach star only made a late cameo from the bench last time out. Benfica forward Haris Seferovic may be lucky to keep his place in the starting eleven.

Conclusion

Italy showed their quality in the second half against Turkey and we are backing the Azzurri to record another victory in this clash. Considering Italy’s recent defensive record and Switzerland’s underwhelming attack efforts against Wales, we are also backing under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the Italy win at odds of 4/7 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
